Harrogate

Complicated Steel Extension

This was a complicated project making changes to existing alterations in a large 4 storey Victorian stone built property near to Harrogate town centre.

The properties previous owners had extended onto the rear/side and had partially knocked through internally leaving one wall and pillars.

We were tasked with fully opening up the space. This meant altering the existing steel in situ while supporting the house above, extension from below and floors in the basement.

Two new steels were specified by our engineer and a section was welded onto the existing steels to extend them to meet the new steels.

A pillar was needed at one end of the steels and a concrete lintel was inserted into the internal wall to spread the load at the other.

Some brackets were fabricated on site to carry the landing joists.
